Prague Fetility Centre Test DNA fragmentace spermii

When is the test recommended?

  • Repeated IVF failures
  • Recurrent miscarriages
  • Infertility without clear cause
  • Low fertilization rate or poor embryo development
  • Male age over 40
  • History of urogenital infections, prostate inflammation, varicocele
  • History of cancer or risky lifestyle (smoking, obesity, alcohol)

How does the test work?

From the collected semen sample, we determine the DFI (DNA Fragmentation Index) – the percentage of sperm with damaged DNA:

  • DFI < 20%: normal value
  • DFI 2030%: elevated damage
  • DFI > 30%: high risk of fertility impact

The DNA fragmentation test complements standard semen analysis, which only evaluates concentration, motility, and morphology.
If increased fragmentation is detected, we recommend lifestyle changes – balanced diet, regular exercise, more frequent ejaculation, stress reduction, and dietary supplements such as antioxidants to improve sperm quality.
The test can be repeated after 3 months.

⚠️ Note: This is a diagnostic test. Sperm is not selected by this method, and the sample cannot be used for fertilization.
For sperm selection, we recommend MICHSS and ICSI.

How to prepare for the test?

According to the latest ESHRE and ASRM guidelines, we recommend a maximum of 24 hours of sexual abstinence before sample collection.
